Our Approach

It’s our job to help you do your job well and with heart. We don’t come in and reinvent everything willy-nilly. Instead, we help you figure out what’s keeping you from the work and life you really want, and then we offer resources to help. We collaborate, we don’t dictate. We ask, we don’t tell, unless telling is the best way to be of service to you.

Targeted attention to high-leverage pivot points can have the greatest impact.

People who consider working with us want to know what we can offer them. You can get a taste of our strengths by looking around our web site, reading what we’ve written, and seeing how we answer some of the questions we get. But the best way is to contact us and talk with us. We’ll want to know a little about you, and we’ll be happy to tell you about our work and whether our strengths would fit well with what you need. If they won’t, we’ll tell you. We think a “good fit” is important. We don’t want to waste your time, and we like to deliver excellent results.

The Two Sides of Your Street

Some challenges are easy to grasp and quantify. Others, no less important, are more difficult to analyze and resist being plugged into a spreadsheet. Unlike many consulting and coaching firms, we help you invest on “both sides of the street”.

The important things you can measure.

Workplace success means that smart goals are met on time and on budget by effective people with the right capabilities who are increasingly skilled, productive and creative enough to meet tomorrow’s challenges as well as today’s.

Some ways of investing here are:

  • Establishing or reformulating a good performance assessment system
  • Hiring the right people who can do the job now and grow into what the job will become
  • Learning to distinguish between low performers that can be helped by training, who can be aided by coaching, and those who are a long-term mismatch with the job – and how to take the right action before it costs you too much
  • Building process improvement into everything your organization does
  • Eliminating the roadblocks caused by ineffective communication inside your group as well as across organization boundaries

The important things that are hard to measure.

Simply because something is difficult to quantify doesn’t mean it won’t have a big impact on your results. In order for work success to be sustainable, you need to invest on the other side of the street – you, your team members, your colleagues, even your bosses — the human beings who are not machines and whose characteristics, like it or not, will make the difference between stellar or mediocre results.

We don’t believe that you have to double and triple your brute-force efforts in order to see big improvements. We have found that targeted attention to high-leverage pivot points can have the greatest impact. We help you implement your chosen changes in a way that increases the likelihood that those changes will “stick”.

Important changes, wisely chosen, intelligently implemented. In a nutshell, that’s what we help you accomplish.
